I decided to go to this cool place because I saw it in an episode of the hills....yes, i'm lame...
Ok! So, headed over here after church on Sunday, and it was a pleasant surprise. It's a small place, and actually looks like a deli. After standing there like an idiot for a few longs seconds, I realized that there were menus propped up for ordering. I picked it up and looked at the menu...and looked at the menu...and looked at the menu.
I did not know what I was looking at. Tofu cheese WHAT? WTH is that....Ok, well...let's order...wth should we order? OK...I see the word seitan "salami"...let's order that...and oh, fries..ok..and..pea soup...and...the chopped salad.
Well, food arrived. Pea soup was just GROSS. boo. Fries were GOOD. Chopped Salad was pretty good. and the sandwich with the 'salami'...
....you know, while I was eating that, I really said, "i can't identify a single thing in the sandwich, but it is freaking GOOD." soo...it was good...and I just found out right now while writing this review, that seitan salami...is NOT salami. oops. ANYHOW, it was good. :)
I really walked out of the place feeling healthy and as if I did something good in this world. I like that feeling....I think I'll go back there again.

Beverly Soon Tofu Restaurant
Category: Korean
After months of hearing that Beverly Soon Tofu was THE place to go for soon du bu, I went here on a Sunday afternoon with high hopes. The place is small and quaintly decorated with old school wooden tables, ceilings, etc. I ordered the kimchi soon dubu (I base the qualities of soon dubu restaurants by the kimchi soon dubu cuz it's my favorite in the world. :) ). We also got the bulgogi bbq to accompany our dubus.
Honestly, the soon dubu was not flavorful. I couldn't taste the kimchi in my soon dubu at all. Needless to say, I was super disappointed. The rest of my group also agreed that their soon dubus were not flavorful (seafood soondubu and another kimchi soon dubu). We also ordered bulgog and it tasted different from other korean restaurants. This one tasted very, very sweet created for the western palate. I didn't really mind it.
To end this review, this place is just ok...considering that there are so many other better and tasty tofu houses in koreatown, I would not recommend this place for soon dubu.

I had no problem with the food...but I had a problem with their parking...Ok, so let's begin:
This restaurant is divided into two sections. One side is dedicated to bbq and one side is dedicated to non-bbq dishes.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was pretty clean (you know them Korean restaurants...) and not too crowded. We were promptly seated in our section (we decided to get soon dubu) and given our menus. The menu had a variety of dishes ranging from soon dubu types to kimchi cold noodles. The soon dubu selections were very similar to that of BCD (kimchi, seafood, curry, dumpling, etc.), but Tofu Village also had a couple unique ones like the baby octopus and clam soon dubu.
One cool thing I liked was the variety of rice types. You can choose from white rice, black rice and green tea rice. I wasn't brave enough to choose the green tea rice, but their black rice was good. Just like BCD, the rice is served in a stone pot and scooped out.
Another cool thing that I liked was their side dishes! They had several small plates of different side dishes + individual steamed eggs + hot tea & cold water. Although none of the side dishes were exceptionally stellar, it was fun tasting each one. :)
The soon dubu was very good too. I think it tasted as good as (maybe even better) than the soon dubu at BCD. I ordered the kimchi soon dubu, and it was very yummy.
OK...so to sum it up:
PRO: clean, not too busy, reasonable prices, tasty meals, fun side dishes, parking is 'free'
CON: unlike BCD, there is no option of ordering combination meals (soup + meat). If you want the meat, you will have to fork out and extra 13-15 dollars, parking is 'free'
TIP: PARKING is shady...like really really shady, so be careful. The restaurant parking is located in the parking structure. The restaurant will pay/validate your parking ticket, only if the ticket is issued by the parking structure (ie: press button upon entering, get ticket, gate rises up, drive thru). Ok, yeah, so this all makes sense, right? But..THIS is what happens:
When I went there..around 6:30-7ish (PRIME TIME), there was no attendant in the cubicle, and the parking bar was raised up. So, I innocently drove past it.. I was soon greeted by a valet person. This valet person walked up to me and asked me where I was heading to. I said, "Tofu village." He nodded his head, signaled to me to get out, and I got his ticket and went to eat my meal. After my meal, I handed the waitress my ticket, and she told me that the restaurant only validates the parking structure ticket, and NOT the valet guy. She told me that I was supposed to press the button and get the ticket. I asked her, how was I supposed to know to press the button when the bar is raised and there is no attendant...she agreed with me. I proceeded to ask her how come the valet guy specifically asked me where I was going and took the car anyway knowing i was going to Tofu Village where the parking is free?! The waitress nodded her head and said the restaurant was always fighting with the valet people for targeting their customers.
"then why don't you PUT up signs for your customers saying free parking w/validation on Parking structure ticket? She said, "we're not allowed to put up signs."...
In summary, She said, "next time you come in, and the parking bar is open, just drive through, and go past the valet guy (who motions for you to stop) and self park." ..She said all this as if i was supposed to know all this. It was no use asking her to put up signs telling customers, "free parking, self park." or whatever. Anyways, long story short, I didn't have to pay...or actually went down and refused to give the shady man his 1.50 (he let me go with no hesitation...he KNEW what he was doing was shady)...
Ok, that is all. Hopefully the parking situation will improve.

This place has its good and bad.
Pros:
-Pretty place where you get to eat outside in front of the store's gated courtyard kinda place.
-Relaxing environment
-Many varieties of tea, all served in a steaming small cute tea pot.
-Cute looking pastries inside the tiny store where you can either eat there or take home
Cons:
-The tea set is not worth the twenty dollars. Nothing on the plate wowed me...the sandwich sample (they were two mini slices) tasted like something you could easily make at home..scones were good...the tiny sampler pastries were...not good...oh, and no refills for tea...I paid TWENTY dollars for that small plate and pot of tea, and not even one refill..come ONNN.
-my friend's salad & sandwich did not wow me either...she didn't finish it.
-Parking can be annoying...had to go around and around to find street parking
- Pastries will not last if you buy to-go and plan on driving a couple hours in an air-conditioned car...my friend bought four pastries ..they were beautifully packaged...she got home, opened them, and they turned into a melted mess. So sad. :(
I'm glad I went there for the vibe..I felt incredibly light hearted and relaxed there. I would not go back for the food..

Do you want to go on a romantic getaway? Viceroy is definitely a place you can go to for that. Lovely all white rooms with soft lighting and an incredibly cozy bed--it's beautiful! I went there last summer, and had a great time. The service is impeccable, and the amenities in the hotel room were cool--soothing tea, water, magazines for you to enjoy...oh and free newspaper delivered to your room daily.
The pool there was cool too. There are a couple pools there, and we went to the smaller one which also happened to be empty. Yay, private pool! :) We had a blast floating around on those water floaters and relaxing on top of the cabana beds.
Be sure to be on the lookout for deals on their site. We were able to get one of their summer deals, and got hooked up with free breakfast at their Citron restaurant as well as with two cocktails at the bar. Not bad!

I've been here maybe four times in the last two years. I have mixed feelings about this place.
First off, the place is always crowded. That's good right? Tells you that something must be good about this place, because people keep coming! Well, it has its downside too. Two of the four times I've been here, they sat us down on the other side of an already occupied table. Usually this is not a problem, but the last time i went there, a family that had a little too much to drink made us feel very uncomfortable (loudness, getting up for them so they could walk out and take a drag, etc.).
Anyways, food-wise, the place has an extensive menu. A fun thing to order is the "ssam bab." It consists of many different varieties of veggies you can wrap your pork or bulgogi in. It also comes with a special "ssam jang"/bean dip that you can use to dip your meat or put in your wrap. The dip is served in a hot stone pot, and usually this is one of the highlights of the ssam bab. Unfortunately, Sa Rit Gol's dip did not meet my tastebud test. It was too salty and tasted too much like a Korean JJajjang (black bean) sauce.
Aside from this though, Sa Rit Gol has yummy side dishes and ok tasting stews--I've had better.
Staff is nice, if you are nice to them. ;) Service can be slow b/c it's so busy, but not too slow. If you go there during prime time, expect to wait...parking is valet in the plaza, but street parking is not hard to find....
This place is hidden in a corner. You can seriously miss it in a blink of an eye, so keep your eyes WIDE open and turn into the plaza, even if you can't find it...because it's there. :)

I love this restaurant. I had my first ever sam gyup sal (thick pork slice) here, and I've been hooked ever since! Most people who come here come for the samgyupsal, and I'm telling ya, it is damn good: thick and juicy! :D
Like most other korean restaurants, you have to cook your own meat, but this restuarant goes a little bit further and lets you cook your own kimchee stew too! How? well, the grill that you cook the meat on is bordered by this inverted area where you can make your stew. The server will give you a bowl full of kimchee, and a pitcher of homemade broth. You then put the kimchee and broth into the inverted area, and while your meat cooks up, the stew will also cook up, and TADA! kimchee jji gae. :)
Some notes: This place is hidden, and it's actually kinda easy to just drive by and miss it. The place has a small parking lot in front that gets packed, but I have never had any trouble finding street parking.
The place is also very very small, and gets very very crowded around dinner time. It sucks when it's so busy, bc you end up waiting like 30 minutes or more. Also, you may get stuck sitting in a table that doesn't come with a built in grill..when you sit there, they will provide you with a portable grill...not too great, bc the meat doesn't cook as well.
Lastly, don't confuse the broth pitcher with the regular barley tea pitcher!

SO GROSS. Ew. SUPER OVERLY tart superficial tasting yogurt...I've tried this place twice, and both times, my face made this ugly expression b/c it was so SOUR! I got mango as one of my toppings, and it was SO hard and not even close to ripe. Also, they were out of mochi...come on! why put it on the menu, if there is none in stock? only good thing was that they have one of those "buy ten get one free" cards....if only the yogurt tasted like yogurt!
This place is booming with people. No matter what time I go, there's a long line in front of the place.
Ordering is easy enough. You stand in line, look at the picture menu on the wall, and order what you want. You pay in line, and the lady gives you a number and tells you to wait outside until the number is called. This particular night (Saturday), my party ended up waiting for more than 40 minutes.
Prices are NOT cheap....well, take that back. I think the price for the sashimi platter is reasonable enough (~$50 for small--wasn't small at all & ~$89), but jeeze, they overcharge for their stews (~$20 for small) and crab ...my opinion. :P
Anyways, once our number was called, we were served promptly. The sashimi plate was wonderful!!! Hehe, the sashimi had no fishy aftertaste, and it tasted very fresh. The stews were just ok..I've had better. We ended up not ordering the crab, b/c we ordered so much other food, but I guess their star food here is the sashimi and the crab. Everyone was ordering the crab...I felt kind of left out. haha. I'm speculating the crab is very tasty...I must try it next time.
Overall: great reasonably priced sashimi, average stews, long waits, busy busy place--not exactly a place where you can sit and talk and have a long relaxing meal.

The food was very fresh--we ordered sashimi (for two), oysters, and Korean Fish stew. The sashimi for two is not listed on the menu, so be sure to ask for it. It's more than enough for a group of four that want to have a tasting of sashimi along with their other dishes. I think the price of it was in the low thirty somethings.
The stew was very very flavorful and hearty. We couldn't finish it all, so the lady there packed it up very nicely to go,and we had a fantastic meal of fish stew the next day at home!
To conclude: Compared to the other korean seafood restaurant down the street/boardwalk, I think this place gives off a cleaner vibe, less crowd, and better fish stew. I would definitely come back here again. MMM!
