Ok it's not amazing, but hey it's not pinkberry either and sometimes this girl needs a break from the norm. There are only so many ways you can dress up a plain or green tea fro yo, and kiwiberry gave me a chance to explore new exciting flavors like blueberry! I realize places like cantaloop has similar flavors such as mango, strawberry etc. But this place is conveniently located next to Sushi Mac where I indulge on a frequent basis.

I don't get a weird after taste, but I do get sweet ice lovin wrapped with some shredded almonds. And after a few dynamite rolls next door, it sure hits the spot. Gotta love the fact that they offer a small size combo or a mix and match of flavors if you choose to do so. I'd come back to this place for sure.

It was hot even at 9 pm, so after eating a combo dinner at Mishima next door (cold soba noodles and chicken/egg over rice) I decided to perambulate over to Kiwiberri to get some reading done in a nice, air-conditioned place.

I ordered the something-something yogurt, no toppings. I don't remember the name of the flavor (obviously), but I do remember that it wasn't offensive. It was sour and sweet and cold - which are all qualities that yogurt should have, right? So I guess they pegged that part.

And the guys serving up the soft served treats wanted so much for their customers to like them, that I couldn't help but like them.

I had tried Pinkberry before, and while that yogurt brand threw my female co-workers into some sorta trance, I didn't particularly think it was that memorable either. Maybe my lack of a second "x" chromosome prevented me from appreciating the flavor explosion of the Pinkberry.

Anyway, while I was sitting there reading about the Siege of Tenochtitlan, in walked Kid of Kid 'N' Play from the "House Party" movies. Remember him? He has given up the hiiiiiigh top fade and the bubble gum hip-hop for stand-up comedy. I think HE liked the Kiwiberri b/c he started doing some sort of song-and-dance routine out of jubilation. Then he left, looking happy.

After awhile, the store closed and I had to go home to my apartment - which that night felt like a Native American sweat lodge.

So all-in-all, I'll give Kiwiberri three middle-of-the-road stars.

I love tart yogurt and am pretty accepting of the taste of most yogurt places.  I went to the Kiwiberry in Rowland Heights, and the yogurt was WAAAAY too tarty/ sour.  It did not taste like any of the other yogurt places.  I only had Kiwiberry once, so I don't know if it was just that day...

I've been driving around for the past few weeks marvelling at the proliferation of Tasty Yogurt Treat joints that have been occupying storefronts all over The LA.  Pinkberry, Kiwiberry, Cantaloop, etc. and so on.  I can't help but think that a bunch of folks over there in wherever the heckfire this idea started once planned to work together.  Then, due to a rift caused by, perhaps, an illicit love affair or plain old greed, The Yogurt Collective splintered and resulted in 45 different people trying to do the same thing.

Anyway, I tried Kiwiberry the other day.  Their powder mix isn't NEARLY as tasty as Pinkberry's powder mix.  It tastes more like glorified Dannon yogurt (which isn't bad, but also not worth the money or the trip) than its rival.  And that makes it difficult for me to sustain the illusion that I'm eating something healthy, y'know?  Because isn't that the point of these places?  You eat some yogurt like substance piled high with chocolate, fruity pebbles, and kiwi fruit and make yourself believe that the "good bacteria" you're theoretically shovelling into your food trap will offset the deleterious health effects of fruity pebbles.  Which are, you know, tasty.  But not healthy.  Which is why I don't eat them unless they're on bacterial yogurt.

I have yet to try Cantaloop, but so far Pinkberry remains atop of the yogurtish ant hill.

SO GROSS. Ew. SUPER OVERLY tart superficial tasting yogurt...I've tried this place twice, and both times, my face made this ugly expression b/c it was so SOUR! I got mango as one of my toppings, and it was SO hard and not even close to ripe. Also, they were out of mochi...come on! why put it on the menu, if there is none in stock? only good thing was that they have one of those "buy ten get one free" cards....if only the yogurt tasted like yogurt!

If this is the yogurt of the future, then send me back to 1987! The best thing about Kiwiberri was the modernistic decor and easy-to-understand menu. I tried the green tea yogurt with strawberries, mochi, and raspberries on top. The toppings were arguably the best thing going on in the bowl. The green tea flavor was so faint, it could have just been foodcolored green.

My friend ordered a kiwi-strawberry smoothie. It was equally bland and even more icey and a little overboard on the tart kiwi flavor.

Parking is a bit of a pain in the small lot as it's usually full with Mishima diners. Save yourself a few calories and keep driving by.

These are the reasons why Kiwiberri should not be confused with Pinkberry....

1) it doesn't taste the same.  period.  end of story.
2) the toppings aren't the same.  i ordered granola with mine...and got something that seemed more like raisin bran.
3) the topping to yogurt ratio is not the same....kiwiberri gives you about 1/2 the amount that pinkberry gives you.

the moral of the story is...stick to the real thing.

but p.s. there is one upside to going to kiwiberri...they actually have parking!

YUCK. Gave Kiwiberri a shot and want my $5+ bucks back! (On that note, I think this place is slightly pricier than Pinkberry too. Another big minus!). The yogurt tasted powdery and thick in a bad way. It left a bad aftertaste and a layer of (powdery) film in your mouth. They are also much stingier on the toppings than Pinkberry and I hated their version of mochi balls --- bland taste and a weird consistency that was really powdery (seems to be a theme?). All in all, do NOT waste your money here!

If you're going to copy Pinkberry, at least make a product that tastes halfway decent!! Kiwiberri yogurt tastes like icy BLAH.  Even the toppings aren't very fresh, and the service and ambiance is in need of great improvement.

I'm definitely going to stick with Pinkberry (or Red Mango, maybe even YogoTango which tastes a LOT better than Kiwiberri).

*** I drove by a couple times in the past week and they are renovating.  They have a coming soon sign up ***

This place is a copycat of Pinkberry with a few differences.
1. they have more toppings
2. they sizes are different and prices
3. the machine they use is a regular frozen yogurt machine - the result is a moe icey consistentcy vs. the more creamy consistency of pinkberry
4. no lines
Overall I prefer kiwiberri over pinkberry because you don't have to wait on line.  If you like a more icey consistency of the yogurt flavored goodness I think you'll like kiwiberri.  The taste of both stores is very similar.

yesssssssss - the pinkberry-rebellion is in full effect.

- too bad this army is armed with lame teenagers and not as many yogurt toppings as the evil empire of pinkberry. the toppings? = weaksauce!  not as good of a selection and the fruit is not as fresh.  AND they skimp on them too.  AND the granola is actually kashi go lean crunch. (???)  whisky tango foxtrot......  or was it mis-categorized by the teenie boppers behind the counter that pay more attention to their friends that are visiting them at work? who knows.

this yogurt is supposed to be richer in taste, but it didn't really live up to that expectation. it also costs more: $5.00 vs. $4.95 for a medium with 3/toppings.

and they also have crepes on the menu. hey kiwiberry... person - why don't you try making your namesake better before you try your hand at crepes?? eh???

if i am extremely desperate for frozen yogurt, which i really haven't been, i might trek on out there to spite the pinkberry chain. but until the crackberry urge overcomes me again - no mediocre frozen-wannabe-pinkberry for me.

.......although rumor has it that they are opening up one soon in old town.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............

*1/07/07 - i was just at the diamond plaza in rowland heights today and saw a sign for kiwiberry. i guess they're already well into their invasion.

5 stars! woohoo.

why? with all the yogurt hype in the city. SuperMegaDomoArigatoBerries opening up left and right.

* more yogurt flavors than pinkberry
* more fruit toppings than pinkberry
* larger amount of fruit than pinkberry
* cheaper than pinkberry (small 3 topping w/ flavored yog for $4! )
* more freebies from helpful staff
* virtually no lines
* no crappy plastic kitchen furniture on the walls
* you can take photos

if that's not enough. than you can go back to your elitist berry and suck it down.
