The kindness and high class of the service and staff make this hotel unforgettable.  They were amazing!  After a horror wedding night hotel experience, the Viceroy was like coming home.  They exceeded all our expectations.  Complementary champagne for our celebration, suite upgrade, breakfast served in bed or by the pool...just amazing!  And every request is handled with grace and a smile.  Couldn't have chosen a better getaway.

Additionally, I'd highly recommend getting several services from the spa.  Manicures and pedicures by the pool are phenomenal and the deep tissue massage is the best I've had in a long time.

Hmmmm...the Viceroy.  I thought this hotel was going to be one of my favorite spots in Palm Spring after reading the yelp reviews so I was excited to check it out.  After eating at Spencers and getting a drink at Melvyns we walked a 1/2 block to Viceroy.  The short walkway to the hotel is so pretty (check out my pics of the bird cages and lights in the tree).  The lobby is small but bright (yellow and white) and you feel like you are in a boutique hotel in L.A. One thing I immediately noticed for the first time during my 3 night stay was that most of the people inside at the bar/Citron/pool were my age!  BUT it just felt like everyone inside was too cool for school. We walked through the tiny building to the pool and decided we actually didn't even feel like staying for a drink.  This was our last stop of the evening and we were feeling tired so that may have had a lot to do with it.  I'm glad there is a place like this is Palm Springs but it was just a little too trendy for my liking.  If you are in the area- walk by and see what you think.

Having been there a couple years ago , I can not believe it has taken me this long to review this little gem of a hotel! I'll get the one and only semi bad thing out of the way first which was our room. Now to be fair, it was an ok room--big bed--air conditioning..that was almost too cold, but felt good after coming in from 115 degree heat outside and the room was situated kind of over the valet parking lot. Now all that said--I'm still a little spoiled from the stay prior to this where we had a little studio room out by the pool area which was wayyyy cool! And also it seems that you get what you pay for because our room was only a whopping $89 a night. Yes--I did say $89!!! Plus when you get a room like that it comes with 2 free drinks & breakfast in the dining room for every day you're there.
Ok--so now all the good stuff. The staff here is so amazing & so friendly & sweet, constantly making sure that you are taken care of . The gentleman that works out by the pool area--Dan--is incredible! If I could have hired him & taken him home with me--I would have. Not to mention he had a great knowledge of the surrounding areas--good places or eat & he had a charming personality on top of that. I will point out though that perhaps he should be working the concierge desk instead of the less than friendly and smart girl who works there. I called one evening about dinner suggestions and you would have thought I was asking her to solve some kind of mathematical equation--not exactly a rocket scientist. She put me on hold twice & then asked to call me back. Then I found out the next day that I missed out on going to a really cool place for dinner because she misinformed me that they had Austrian food--which they DIDN'T"T! I guess I am a little tough on this because I work for a concierge company.
Ok--so I got off track...the food is outstanding...we had breakfast in the dining room every day & many many things poolside--plus in the summer on Saturday's they have a BBQ outside with all kinds of yummy things that aren't on the regular menu. So let me run down a list of my favs'...Margarita pizza...homemade fresh out of the oven cookies-with creme fresh...carne asada taco's..homemade tortilla chips with guacamole...the hamburger & fries...giant shrimp from the BBQ and coconut ice cream. This would all explain why I gained about 5 pounds while I was there.
The grounds are so pretty & I had forgotten what a short walk into town it is from the hotel. I met some of the nicest people by the pool--mainly because the pool is the only choice you have in 115 degree heat and oh--this is so cool..the pool is Saline instead of Chlorine--so you can stay in all day & not shrivel up like a prune.
So for all the wonderful things about this place I will say this--I'm not sure if it's good or bad..I guess it depends on how you look at it because it provided tons of comic relief for several of us. There are some really strange--FAKE--very odd people that hang here. Most of them seemed as though they were not staying there but rather just regulars that come to drink & bother other people by being stupid & pretentious out by the pool & in the bar area. The only way I could describe them is as rejects from The Ivy or The Hardrock--who just weren't to cool enough to get in--probably because they are STUPID & FAKE! This one chic had so much stuff injected into her upper lip that she could barely move her mouth--only to be overshadowed by her sashaying around in her bikini  by the pool like she was on America's next top model. It was actually rather funny when it wasn't annoying the crap out of those of us who were actually paying to be there!!!!
So--a couple tips...if you want to lay by the pool & get an umbrella--plan on getting up EARLY--like no later than 8am...pick your spot, set your stuff down & then go back to bed or to breakfast. Trust me--it won't get up & walk away. If you are luck y enough to grab a raft before they are gone--don't let it out of your sight. The have yummy coffee in the bar area that doesn't last long--so again--get there early...oh and they have IPOD docking stations in the rooms, I don't think it mentions that on their website.
And in response to the person who has a review posted prior to mine regarding people bringing their own alcohol. I would like to say--although I myself did not bring my own alcohol---I saw several people out by the pool who did and it wasn't tacky at all. Guess what--it's a hotel lady---lots of people bring their own liquor...to tons of other hotels and guess what--the hotels don't care!!!! Margarita's at $10 a glass aren't exactly a cheap way to go when your there for more than 2 days. Stop being such a snob!
My bar bill was ridiculous and that was my own choice--however next time I go I will definitely be bringing some red plastic to go cups with me to hold my vodka & cranberry juice.
That's what makes this place so awesome---THEY DON'T CARE!!

Recently we were fortunate enough to plan and host a "treat/retreat" for our small office at the Viceroy Palm Springs in late June 2008 - our whole team had a great time!

We were looking for a place that provides high level of service, with as little pretension as possible.  The entire team from the Viceroy was amazing:  from ordering a welcome drink to be served at the time of group check-in, to the Food & Beverage team who accommodated dessert service by the pool, to the cleaning team who ensured our of Villa had no trace of the buffet we hosted the night before.

We stayed in Regency Villa 104, a spacious one bedroom cottage with a large salon decorated with a comfortable L-shaped sofa, mirrored coffee tables, and gas fireplace all in white, with décor touches in the Viceroy signature yellow and black.  The mirrored armoire held a plasma TV and DVD player.

We also had a small dining room with bold black & white wall paper, and a kitchen with the basics as well as a modern, full sized refrigerator and stove and oven.  The cottage had it's own patio surrounded by greenery, complete with an umbrella table, 4 chairs and built in cushioned benches.

The bedroom has a very comfortable king sized bed with duvet, and another TV in a smaller armoire.  While the bedroom opens in to the salon, there are black out curtains to separate the rooms (and block the sunrise that lights up the whole Villa via the eastern windows, if you don't close them).

The bathroom was fine, and stocked with great lightly scented products and a wealth of white terry.  Drama lighting in the bedroom, salon and dining room allows you to create the ambiance you're looking for.  The air conditioner at full blast kept things comfortable in the 114 degree weather.

We personally did use the Estrella Spa or compact but complete gym on site, but both received rave reviews from our team.

The three pool areas (two reserved for adults) were well tended throughout the day, and staffed by cocktail runners, even on a slower Monday in summer.  There are plenty of yellow and white striped chaise lounges by the pool, and yellow pool floats with the Viceroy whippet insignia.  There are also curtained cabanas near by, and they seem to be staked out early.  Free ice chilled water dispenser are provided, along with large white pool towels.

The all the food we had catered by Citron was really good.  Try the beef short rib with chili-glaze, or their gazpacho with grilled prawn.  Big praise too for their soba noodle salad with grilled chicken breast.  The bartender Daniela also created a vanilla vodka, frangelico and date shake for us that was delicious!  Also try her raspberry mojitos.

The Sales and Food & Beverage Managers were easy to work with, and ensured we were satisfied throughout our stay.  Their General Manager checked in not only with our group, but we saw that he walked the resort several times on Saturday evening, to check-in and mingle with his guests.

We look forward to our next stay!

Ok, the decor can't be beat.  The grounds and pools were really cool (but small) - which was kind of nice as you coul chat with the other guests who were really friendly and most seemed to be from my home town of Southern Cali!  Keep in mind this place is tiny (even though it is on 4 acres).  The check in area can only hold two people at a time.  Very tight quarters especially when people have luggage.  The staff was AMAZINGLY nice.  Great little/tiny restaurant.  Very cool vibe all around.  Very hip crowd.  The only REALLY negative was the room!  This was obvisously a motel 6 that was converted.  There was a cheesy AC hanging out the side of the building.  Which meant the room was not cool enough.  Mind you, this is Palm Springs,  you need central air!  The bathroom was tiny including the shower.  Both me & my friend were sweating like pigs as we were getting ready.  I give them a high rating because of the decor and the wonderful staff.  But for $250 a night they need to seriously consider upgrading the rooms.  Beds were great.  Walls needed touch up paint and the curtains were ripped and being held up by bobbie pins.  Yes, I said bobbie pins!   I also noticed people were bringing their own beverages poolside.  Which I feel is really tacky as this is how the staff makes there money.  But with that said, no one really seemed to care.  For you people who are doing that, you should at least tip the poolside waiter for all the money you saved by bringing your own beverages!  If the rooms were nicer I would give this place 5 stars & then some.  It was a super fun place.  Friday was dead & Saturday was booming poolside.  I would also love it if than banned smoking poolside.  Sorry smokers!

Any place that can cater to my dog Buddha as well as this place did gets nothing but the highest regards from me.  Our stay was extremely comfortable.  The rooms, the food, the service and amenities were of the highest Caliber.  The Burger with secret sauce and cornichons was so good, I ordered two within a 24 hr period.   We are definitely thinking of making this place our annual get away.

This place is right in front of my cousin's house (although I have to walk through the Ingleside Inn to get there), so I spend... a fair amount of time here. Last time was during Coachella. I flew out specifically to hang Friday night, and they wouldn't let me in as it was sold out/private by GQ and Gap. But... Saturday, after a couple bottles of wine (with a friend) at my cousin's pool, I made my way over around 3. I sat in one of my fav spots in the world (the L-shaped couch outside the bar). We invited a gal over (who ended up being with the Gap), and the 3 of us (outside of leaving for 3 hours for sushi) sat there until midnight yappin.. And then moved to the back where they were serving patron (girls) until 3AM gratis. And it's always like this... DJ's pumping all day on weekends, and good fun. My fav bartender Christine is gone though... off to Matchbox. R.I.P. They get 4 stars for letting her go, and not begging her back. I will never forgive them... but I will go back as long as they allow me in the front door.

Still one of my fav places... to hang.

Stayed here once for work and once for my bachelorette party weekend. The standard rooms are okay; their restrooms are pretty small though. I took a tour of one of their 1- and 2-bedroom villa-style suites, which seem pretty swank. The various pool areas are nice and the staff are really friendly.

My maid-of-honor planned a fantastic weekend for us, which including an amazing meal at their signature restaurant Citron. We had a poolside cabana with a dedicated maitre'd and dined al fresco for a good 3+ hours.

The location is great because it's within walking distance of the main strip downtown so it's close to all the dining and shopping options, but it's far enough way to feel remote and undisturbed by the hustle & bustle (if you consider PS to be capable of hustle & bustle).  They also offer Townie bicycles for their guests, which is a quaint touch.

I stayed here, along with 16 other women, for a bachelorette party recently. First of all, the decor and vibe of the entire place is so cool - they have thought of every single small detail in order for the whole place - grounds included - to match. The ambience is clean, crisp, relaxing and had a very chill vibe. Secondly, the service and staff was beyond amazing. They anticipated every need of ours and went completely out of their way to make sure our party had a fantastic time. Yes, we were spending a lot of money at the hotel but we honestly thought they thought we were famous - that is how great they treated us. The joke was that they were going to discover we were nobodies and stop with the fantastic service - but that is just the way this hotel treats their guests!

This hotel would work great for groups such as bachelor/bachelorettes, but definitely seemed just as great for couples wanting a romantic getaway. It had a playful vibe but it was not a clubby resort - a great place to have some wine, great food, relax or laugh and talk with your friends. If you want a non-stop party, this isn't the place, however.

We rented 2 bedroom suites, which claim to sleep 6 but watch out for the pull-out couch - it's more of a glorified twin rather than a full sized bed! They have kitchenettes, which was great to have big breakfasts together in the morning instead of having to break up into smaller groups to eat breakfast at the restaurant - plus you can mix some of your own drinks so you don't spend quite so much at the pool!

I'd like to go back again!

Do you want to go on a romantic getaway? Viceroy is definitely a place you can go to for that. Lovely all white rooms with soft lighting and an incredibly cozy bed--it's beautiful! I went there last summer, and had a great time. The service is impeccable, and the amenities in the hotel room were cool--soothing tea, water, magazines for you to enjoy...oh and free newspaper delivered to your room daily.

The pool there was cool too. There are a couple pools there, and we went to the smaller one which also happened to be empty. Yay, private pool! :)  We had a blast floating around on those water floaters and relaxing on top of the cabana beds.

Be sure to be on the lookout for deals on their site. We were able to get one of their summer deals, and got hooked up with free breakfast at their Citron restaurant as well as with two cocktails at the bar. Not bad!

Truth be told, I had a great time at the Viceroy.  I had never been a huge fan of the Palm Desert area, but one of my best friends and I made a long weekend of it a few years back and got a great rate here.

The room itself was pretty well appointed in typical KWID fashion.  Nice bed and bath linens, and we even had our own little fridge.  Some of the furniture looked like it had seen better days, but it was plenty of room for just the two of us.  The little balcony was a great little touch with my cigarette smoking friend.

The spa was nice and treatments perfect.  I had had a few unsightlinesses on my feet (high heels and lots of walking in a humid NYC) and was treated to probably the best foot care ever.  I say foot care because this was waaaay more than a pedicure could ever be.

The pool situation was lovely - especially when they walked by and spritzed us with cool water or handed us a cold towel scented with eucalyptus or lemon.  Why can't all poolside experiences be like this?

The bar at Citron was a bit of a letdown.  Nothing too exciting and they screwed up on a couple of key cocktails (I can say this being not only an avid cocktail connoisseur but former bartender).  Didn't get a chance to sample the food there.

All in all, I was very happy of my stay and will stay again, but it isn't as though I'm longing to go back.

If this is a home away from home, yep I wouldn't mind being away from home all the time :P

We pulled up and was immediately greeted by a very friendly valet dude.  I love the walk to the lobby, because of the water fountain right outside.  It was very very tempting for me to mark it because it's pretty, but my mommy said no :p

The lady at the check-in was very friendly as well.  When she was telling my aunt about the 40lb limit, thank goodness my mommy and I prepared for it because it was after the holiday and I know I ate too much, but at least I didn't gain 19 lbs.  They gave my cousin and I our own bowl with cookies.  I was looking for my name on the bowl, because their site said ( http://www.viceroypalm... ) we get personalized bowls, but it was not printed :(.  Well I still got the bowl and cookies, but no name.

She was nice enough to walk all of us to our room, which gave us a tour of the hotel, through the bar, the restaurant, the pool, the garden, then our BEAUTIFUL ROOM!  I love this room, it's white, it's clean, it's got balcony, it's got lots of details, it's great!!!  I was running everywhere, I loved it as soon as I got there, that I forgave them for forgetting to put my name on the bowl.

My mommy walked me outside the hotel, the location is great easy access for me to get to the outside.  I was tired and cold, so we decided to stay in and get room service.  ROOM SERVICE for ME!!!! WHOAH!  A Pooch Menu, room service!!!!! For me!!!! Yes me, 4 legged me.  A room service!!

I ordered steak and eggs, and my mom, aunt and grandma ordered their food too.  My food came the same way as theirs, covered, with napkin, with clean plate, and of course my bowl of steak and eggs.  Big Serving!  Room service for me!!!  (Have I mentioned that already?)  I loved it, I loved my food!   I really felt like I was on my vacation same way as my mommy.  She was relaxing, I was relaxing, she was eating, I was eating.  I love this place.  Every staff here made me feel like they loved me too.

I met a couple of babes by the pool area, so that's exciting for me.  After my mom walked me outside for my morning walk, we got her coffee from the bar (which is free) and we sat by the pool and just kicked it.

See the pics I've included.  Paws up for this place :D

Excellent hotel. The staff is very helpful and polite. This place has like 3 pools, which is great if you want a more private swim. I've stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world and this rates pretty high in service and accomidations. The food has been wonderful too.

Perhaps if you are in Palm Springs during normal weather, you wouldn't mind the claustrophobic room - you could have coffee on the patio outside the room.  But two days of rain made the room's small size and musty smell unpleasant. (Did I mention the noisy refrigerator? I would have unplugged it but they stock it with ice cream -- not that we ate it, but I didn't think I should make it melt.)  And the service at the front desk and restaurant was laughable.   Finally, they gave us two continental breakfasts as part of our room rate.  However, one day was Sunday brunch, so no continental breakfast (all we wanted) was available, so they credited us with $30 toward the brunch costs.  The next day, we just had continental breakfasts ...gave them the credit slip, and there was still a few dollars charged (before gratuity).  Amateur hour.  Would not return.

For $360 a night, I expected better. Our room is clearly a converted motel room. You can put a nice bed in it (which they did) and replace all the plumbing and fixtures (which they did), but it's still a small room with a small shower and a small bathroom.

Dinner and breakfast were just fine (although we judged the mojitos to be just okay and nothing special) and the staff has been really friendly, but just barely competent. When it rained, the hotel ran out of umbrellas. They forgot to put plates out for the Sunday brunch. When we were seated for both dinner and breakfast, it took at least 10 minutes for a waiter to acknowledge our presence (getting that first cup of coffee in the morning should be an absolute priority for the entire hotel). When we called for our car, no one answered the phone. Staff clearly weren't cross trained so the front door couldn't get our car; we had to wait for the lone car guy to fetch someone else's first. The bartender couldn't check us in for our dinner res and decide which table to put us at.

The hotel isn't responsible for the state of Palm Springs, but we found downtown to be shabby; about a fifth of the stores are out of business. The entire functioning downtown is about four blocks, much reduced from its former glory, and a lot of the local attraction seems to have moved out to the resort cities. But if you're going to pay $360 a night to stay in what is supposed to be a hot spot, I'd be wishing I was staying in a place that had bigger rooms, a nice lobby, and a better city to wander around in.

Bottom line: It would have been better to replace the rooms than refurbish them. The Viceroy Santa Monica is a much better rehab than this one and Santa Monica is a whole lot more vibrant than Palm Springs!

screw weekend getaways to the city of lost wages..better known as las Vegas. Its all about palm springs and most importantly its all about the Viceroy. The attention to detail at this little modern meets Victorian boutique hotel is superb despite the $24 resort fee, but that's what get your valet and wifi.

Booked this place on the same day I was heading out there and paid $100 bucks which was a steal! The best part was it included two welcome cocktails ($30 value) and Continental Breakfast ($30 value too). Before I forget, this is not your typical pastries and bagels Continental breakfast. You dine at the Citron restaurant for up to $30. I'm talking french press coffee here!! The hubby got the mushroom and goat cheese omelet and I opted for the Viceroy which included rye toast, eggs, sausage, the best apple smoked bacon and you can taste the apple smokiness, and this crunchy potato risotto which is to die for!! As for our welcome cocktails, go with any of the mojitos ($12). There made with fresh fruit. Choose from peach, grapefruit, mango, and raspberry.

There are two adult pools which is open til 1 am. The pool attendant, valet, and front desk will go out of there way for you if you need anything. There on top of there shit here as if the four seasons trained them. Everywhere you go, you can grab a cup of fresh ice water with lemon.

As for the rooms.. ohhh my...the bed is super comfy and this place has the best stocked bar and mini bar ever!! There is even Twister in your room if you get bored and Ben and Jerry ice cream in the freezer as well as an eye mask. don't forget to order room service for dessert from the Citron restaurant...simply yummy...

I want to go back....

Absolutely wonderful hotel... one of my favorite hotel experiences ever. This hotel is super cool - the accomodations are luxurious and I absolutely loved the decor. The big white bed was sooo comfortable and inviting. The room had super soft lighting and very unique modern furniture. I loved the white theme. They even had an ipod radio dock by the bed. The hotel also offers complimentary breakfast coupons for $25/day which you could even use for room service! The food was delicious... both the room service and Citron, the hotel's restaurant, served very yummy stuff. Palm Springs is definitely a vacation destination to go and do nothing and the Viceroy makes it ohhhh so easy to do nothing but relax and pamper yourself.
So why 4 stars only? I think that as a result of getting some ridiculously good rate online, we were given probably the worst room in the hotel. It was pretty small and didn't have a balcony or patio. The window was tiiiny so we didn't get much of that Palm Spring's sunshine. I would definitely love to go back and hopefully get one of their regular rooms and up my rating to 5 stars!

What's not to love about the Viceroy?

The hotel itself is nicely spread out over a few acres of courtyards and one and two story buildings.  The grounds are beautiful landscaped and public spaces are decorated in the "Hollywood Regency" style, just think of lots of white, black, and yellow.  There are three pools, one of which is the "family" pool, but I think it's quieter than the other two adult pools.  However, the pools have chaises, mattresses, attendants, and iced water.

The rooms were comfortable and well appointed.  All sorts of fun stuff to play with.  The bed could've been a little more firm, but maybe it's just me as I like really hard beds.

Citron, the hotel's restaurant and bar turned out some really delicious drinks.  I think my favorite was the Grapefruit Mojito.  It was really tasty and they used fresh grapefruit juice (apparently from their own citrus trees).  And while I am normally skeptical of hotel food, I thought the eggs benedict were really delicious.  I subbed smoked salmon for the requisite canadian bacon, which I think made it SO much more better.  I also got the Peach Passion smoothie which was really good.

Everything here is better than would be expected than at your normal trendy hotel, and I think that is where the Kor Group does a good job.  The staff was absolutely amazing.  From the bartenders, to the pool attendants, to front desk staff, everyone went out of their way to deliver excellent service with a smile.

I live for my weekend getaways at the Viceroy Palm Springs. I'm a big fan of the Kor Hotel group but for me, this one takes the CAKE! I chalk that up to the Palm Springs location. THE city where it's totally justifiable to do absolutely nothing but INDULGE... lay by the pool, drink daiquiris, visit the spa, eat yummy food and shop at the most fabulous Cabazon Outlets! GUILT FREE!!! I love it, love it, love it!

The grounds are beautiful, rooms are beautiful and the beds are delicious! The pools are small but cozy with great, great loungy furniture, service and refreshing help yourself elixir mixers. AESTHETICS make this place!  Everything is WHITE with accents of citrus and black. Really clean & fresh! I just feel so happy and special when I first step into that lobby and am whisked away to my beautiful weekend retreat.

Can't say enough about the VICEROY but have yet to visit another hotel in PS. I'm going to Le Parker Palm Springs later this summer so will be interesting to compare. Summer is a great time to visit. Online specials are pretty smokin' during the hot summer months and it's a bit more secluded. ENJOY & INDULGE, it's so necessary and worth it!

I chose this place based strictly on internet reviews and sexy pictures on their website; and I wasn't let down.
Definitely pricey, but worth it if you can afford it. I loved the sleek mix of black, white and yellow decor, especially as compared to some tacky motel pastels that you would find elsewhere.
The service was Fantastic, from the front desk down to the pool attendant. Whatever you wanted, they would bring you. My favorite thing was that poolside, the attendant brought each person their own personal ice bucket with bottled water in it.
The restaurant on-site, the Citron, is tasty but very expensive, especially for breakfast!! Do yourself a favor and try it once for dinner, but if you eat several meals here, your wallet will regret it.....
I'd love to stay here again; the service and amenities made me feel like a celebrity.

I love this place.  We didn't stay there, we went for the spa and the pool and the food: all terrific.  Between two of us, we got a pedicure, facial, waxing and a massage, and they were some of the best spa treatments either of us have had.  They have two small but cute pools, and the whole place is very well decorated; fun and chic.  Next time I'm in Palm Springs, I'll definitely stay there.

Old Hollywood style for the young! This hotel is uber cool - Palm Springs is a town known for retired people driving around in Cadillac's who dine at 5PM - but hold on - the Viceroy comes to the rescue! Thank goodness!

Very hip hotel. It is done up in the Hollywood Regency style. Don't miss having drinks near the pool on your next trip to Palm Springs.

I love many things about the hotel.  The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are elegantly done and the watermelon mojitos are excellent.  The only problem is that the 3 pools are quite small and can fill up rather quickly.  My suggestion is to get up early and to get a spot by one the pools.

Great Hotel, Amazing Drinks, but awful food at the Hotel restaurant.

We where there for the Xmas dinner 2006. They messed up our order,  served us food we didn't had ordered and that was not even on the menu!!!  I think they where all high in the Kitchen! But the drinks are great!

Not sure I will go back there for food!

I think this modern hip hotel close to downtown Palm Springs is the coolest.  It's such a classic...I don't think I would get sick of this place.  I love how the place looks, smells---they use Thymes products which is so addicting.  The fountains and the gardenscape in the outdoors makes for an inviting atmosphere.
